Fascias, Soffits & CladdingLead is what keeps water out at a roof's weak points: chimneys, valleys, abutments and dormers. We form and fix it properly, in the right code, so the junctions don't leak.
Rated five stars on Google by Surrey homeowners who've trusted us with their lead work & flashing, from Wonersh to Dunsfold and across the wider county. After more than 36 years on Surrey roofs, most of our lead work & flashing work still comes the old-fashioned way: neighbours recommending us over the fence. A roof rarely leaks in the open field of tiles. It leaks where things meet: the chimney, the wall abutment, the valley, the dormer cheek. Lead is the traditional, durable way to weather those junctions, dressed and formed to let water run off and to move with the roof.
Good leadwork looks formed, not sealed on. We use the correct lead code for the detail and exposure, work to Lead Sheet Association guidance, and finish with patination oil so fresh lead doesn't stain the masonry below.

The dressed lead details that keep a roof watertight where it is most vulnerable.

Lead is specified by code, its thickness, matched to the detail and the exposure. A common short cut is one oversized piece of lead where several smaller ones should be: it looks neat, then cracks as it expands and contracts. Mastic bodges and mortar-only flashing are the other tell-tales.
Done properly, leadwork is dressed to shape, lapped correctly, chased and fixed into the masonry, and finished with patination oil so it weathers evenly. It's a craft, and after 36 years on Surrey roofs it's one we take seriously.

A small, sound flashing can often be re-dressed and re-fixed. Fatigued, cracked or badly detailed lead is better replaced and formed correctly in the right code, because patching failed lead rarely lasts.
Fresh, un-oiled lead can stain the masonry beneath it as it weathers. Patination oil, applied when the lead is fitted, greatly reduces that, which is why we finish leadwork properly rather than leaving it bare.
Mastic and mortar-only 'flashing' look fine briefly, then crack and let water in as the roof moves. Properly dressed lead flexes with the building and lasts for decades, which is why it remains the right material for these junctions.
Lead expands and contracts with temperature. One oversized piece has nowhere to move, so it fatigues and splits. Correct leadwork uses appropriately sized pieces with laps, so each can move without cracking.
