Don't Just Take Our Word For It
Rated five stars on Google by Surrey homeowners who've trusted us with their felt roofing, from Shalford to Ewhurst and across the wider county. After more than 36 years on Surrey roofs, most of our felt roofing work still comes the old-fashioned way: neighbours recommending us over the fence. You can read all our reviews, word for word.
Modern Felt, Properly Laid
Today's felt roofing is reinforced bitumen membrane: a layered system bonded over a prepared deck, with a vapour layer where needed and a mineral cap sheet on top. Laps are staggered so water always sheds over a joint, never into it. It's familiar, repairable and dependable when it's laid right.
Torch-on felt is bonded with a gas flame, which means fire risk near timber and insulation. We work to proper hot-works procedures, and offer cold-applied and self-adhesive systems where flame near the building isn't sensible.

Felt Roofing We Install & Repair
Felt suits smaller flat areas and outbuildings where its layered, repairable build-up earns its place.

Felt, EPDM Or GRP?
Felt is familiar, repairable and forgiving on awkward shapes. EPDM rubber avoids torches and has fewer joints. GRP gives a seamless rigid finish but needs dry conditions and careful prep. There's no universal winner, only the right choice for your roof.
The one thing all three share: they live or die by the detailing and the deck. We check the deck, prep it properly, and, with torch-on, take fire precautions seriously, because scorched timber and rushed hot-works are how felt roofs cause real damage.

Felt Roofing Questions, Answered
Blisters usually mean trapped moisture or loss of bond between the felt and the deck, often from age or a poorly prepared surface. Small blisters can sometimes be repaired; widespread blistering usually means the covering is due for renewal.
Felt is repairable and forgiving; EPDM avoids torches with fewer joints; GRP gives a seamless finish but needs dry conditions and careful prep. The best choice depends on the roof shape, access and fire risk, and we'll advise honestly.
Any flame near timber and insulation carries risk, which is why torch-on work must follow proper hot-works procedure with the right precautions. Where flame near the building isn't sensible, we use cold-applied or self-adhesive systems instead.
Often, yes, where the damage is localised and the rest of the covering and the deck are sound. We'll tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether re-covering is the better spend.
A modern reinforced bitumen felt system, properly laid on a sound deck with good detailing, lasts many years. Poor laps, a bad deck or weak edges are what cut a felt roof's life short.
