Metal Roofing Materials
The awkward part of metal roofing is that the material choice gets made for the wrong reasons. Someone likes the look of zinc, or hears aluminium is cheaper, and the decking, the pitch and the ventilation get sorted out afterwards. That is backwards. The roof structure and the exposure decide what belongs up there, and then you choose the finish.
We work in standing seam zinc and aluminium, box profile sheet and metal tile sheet. Each behaves differently. Zinc moves as it warms and needs clips and seams that let it. Aluminium is light and stays put on a structure that will not carry much weight. Box profile suits garages, workshops and outbuildings where a long clean run does the job. Metal tile sheet gives a tiled appearance on a pitch that would struggle with the load of real tiles.
- Standing seam zinc: long life, matt weathered finish, needs proper allowance for thermal movement.
- Standing seam aluminium: lighter, coated finishes, good on extensions and dormers.
- Box profile sheet: straightforward, strong, sensible over garages and stores.
- Metal tile sheet: the look of tiles at a fraction of the weight.
We fix to BS 5534 for fixing and wind uplift, and where profiled sheet is used we follow BSI's BS 5427:2016+A1:2017 code of practice for profiled sheet roof and wall cladding. Ventilation and condensation are handled under BS 5250, because a cold metal deck with warm air underneath will drip and people blame the roof. Rainwater sizing follows BS EN 12056. That is not decoration on a quote. It is the difference between a roof that lasts and one that gets patched every winter.
Older garages sometimes have asbestos cement sheet under the surface. We assess it, tell you what it is, and advise the compliant route under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. We do not remove it ourselves.

Bespoke Fabrication and Flashings
Most metal roofs do not fail across the middle of a panel. They fail at the edges: the abutment, the upstand, the awkward junction where a flat section meets a pitch, the verge that was trimmed on site by someone in a hurry. Detailing is where the money either gets earned or gets wasted.
We set out and form our own flashings, drips, welted edges, copings and soakers, rather than forcing a stock section to fit a wall it was never made for. Leadwork follows Lead Sheet Association guidance, with the right code and the right fixing centres, so nothing creeps or splits. Our own roofers do it. No subcontracted strangers turn up in an unmarked van halfway through.
The metal roofing on this page sits alongside the rest of what we do, which matters more than it sounds. If you need metal roofing in Knaphill or flat roofing in Knaphill, we cover the whole area, and that means a metal upstand meeting an EPDM or GRP deck gets detailed as one job by one team instead of two trades pointing at each other. That is also why our metal roofing work reads as a system rather than a set of parts.
Included as standard, not added later:
- Full survey of the structure, deck and existing details, with a drone view where it helps.
- Flashings and trims formed to suit your actual walls and openings.
- Ventilation and condensation control designed in, not left to chance.
- Rainwater outlets and gutters sized for the roof area.
- Site cleared, and a 25-year written workmanship guarantee handed over before we leave.
If a repair to the existing detail will hold, we say so. We do not sell a full re-roof to a house that needs a new abutment flashing, and we do not push roof coatings.

Metal Cladding and Façades in Knaphill
Cladding goes wrong when it is treated as a skin. It is not. Behind the visible panel there is a cavity, a fixing rail, a breather layer and a drainage path, and if any of those are missed the wall stains, the fixings weep and the panel line goes wavy in the first hot spell.
We clad dormer cheeks, porch canopies, garden rooms, gable panels and full façades in zinc and aluminium, using flat lock and standing seam panels to suit the elevation. Panel direction, seam spacing and fixing pattern are all set out before anything is cut. On a house with a period frontage and a modern rear extension, the cladding usually needs to sit quietly rather than shout.
Fascias, soffits and rainwater goods are part of the same conversation. Seamless aluminium guttering finishes a metal roof better than a jointed plastic run, and it carries the water the roof actually shed. Looking for a metal roofer close to home in Knaphill, with local roofers who know the housing stock around Woking and the Wey Valley? That is the work we do week in, week out.
Standing Seam Roofing Systems
Standing seam looks simple from the ground. It is the least forgiving system we install. Panel lengths, clip type, seam height and the allowance for expansion all have to be right on paper before a single sheet is rolled, because a seamed roof cannot be quietly adjusted afterwards. Get it wrong and you get oil canning, noise and movement at the ridge.
Survey and set out
Scott looks at the roof himself. Deck condition, pitch, exposure, penetrations, and where the water has to go. Nothing is guessed from the pavement.
Fixed price in writing
You get an honest fixed price on paper, with the materials, the details and the ventilation spelled out. The survey and the quote cost nothing and carry no obligation. If a smaller repair does the job, that is what we quote.
Fabrication and installation
Panels are formed to length, clipped to allow movement, and seamed in sequence with the flashings worked in as we go. Same roofers, start to finish.
Handover
Site swept, offcuts gone, guarantee handed to you in writing. If something is not right inside 25 years, we come back.
If you need metal roofing in Knaphill or emergency roofing in Knaphill, we cover the whole area, and a real person answers the phone day, night or weekend. Emergencies go to the front of the queue. Nobody waits until Monday for water coming through a ceiling.
