• Felt or torch-on: layers of reinforced felt bonded with heat, a built-up system that has kept British roofs dry for generations. Where the building suits it, it is still the right call.

So replacement is often the moment for a warm-roof upgrade. The insulation goes above the deck, under the new membrane, and the deck stays warm and dry. Under Approved Document L, renewing more than half of a roof's area means bringing the whole roof up to the current insulation standard, where that is technically and economically feasible. We build that into the price from the start. It is never sprung on you later.
